Board of Directors

The initial board of directors of the Association of Scout Councils, Inc. is composed of six volunteers.  Read more about them below.  

David Cousins serves as a director and Board Chair for the Association.   After more than two decades in international telecommunications leadership, he began investing and managing smaller tech companies, from start-up to exits. In 2009 he formed Beta Partners, which helps businesses and organizations grow effectively, both organically and through M&A. His personal expertise is in effective strategy, c-suite and board alignment, and M&A integration.  David has held many unit and commissioner corps positions including Council Commissioner for Northern Star Council. He has been recognized with the Silver Beaver Award and the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow.  He lives in Minnetonka Minnesota.  Click here to contact David.  

Lucia Cronin serves as a director of the Association.  Lucia Cronin is an accomplished financial professional with extensive global experience in the investment management industry.  Lucia’s area of expertise is in operational functions and the risk management of those, with proficiency in strategic planning and the integration of acquisitions.  She is a consensus builder and innovative leader, with a focus on efficiency, teamwork, and integrity.  She is creative in envisioning the big picture, yet with keen attention to detail.  Lucia applies the same passion she has for her professional life to her volunteer efforts in the Boy Scouts of America.  A long-time Council Executive Board Member, Lucia serves as the Chair of National Service Territory 6, and on several national BSA committees.  She formerly chaired the national Cub Scout committee, after starting her Scouting volunteer life as a Den Leader for her three Eagle Scout sons.  Lucia received the Silver Buffalo Award in 2017.  When she’s not behind her desk or doing Scouting, she can be found training for or participating in long-distance running events like the Chicago Marathon.

Timothy R. Greenleaf serves as a director of the Association.  Tim has had a 30 plus-year successful private equity and venture capital career.  Today, he continues to be an active venture capital investor.  Tim sits on the boards of several start-up companies, and is an advisor to three early-stage venture capital funds.  He has also served on a number of public company, private company, and bank boards of directors and committees.  As a volunteer, Tim has served on numerous non-profit boards and related audit, finance, and investment committees.  Prior to his investing career, he was a partner at a large global law firm, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, and complex tax and corporate structuring.  Tim is the immediate past President and Chairman of the Board of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council.  He received the Silver Beaver Award in 2014.

Jason P. Hood serves as a director and Secretary/Treasurer for the Association.  Jason began his career in strategic planning and human resources development for a multi-national, specialty chemical company.  After completing law school, he was in private practice with a large law firm as a litigator before embarking on a 20-year career as in-house, general counsel and senior executive of several global companies.  Jason has worked with private equity backed companies as well as public companies.  He has experience with corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, legal and risk management, compliance, corporate real estate, aviation, and has served as a chief legal officer and chief administrative officer.  He has advised boards of directors, audit committees, and senior executives.  Jason has served on nonprofit boards as a director, audit committee member, and board chair. He is a long-time council board member of the Chickasaw Council where he has served in numerous roles including Council Commissioner and Council President.  Jason has also served in various area, region, and national committee roles.  He is the Chair for National Service Territory 14.  One of his most enjoyable Scouting volunteer positions was Cubmaster for his son's Cub Scout pack.

Jay L. Lenrow serves as a director of the Association.  After completing law school, Jay began his career with a large national law firm in Baltimore, Maryland in 1977.  Jay also served as an Assistant Attorney General of the State of Maryland and as General Counsel to numerous companies during his 46-year legal career.  His practice included real estate development, construction, corporate governance, and franchising.  He has advised boards of directors and senior executives.  Jay has served on several nonprofit boards as a director and board chair.  He is a long-time council board member of the Baltimore Area Council which he served as Council President from 2003-2005 and for which he now serves as Council Attorney.  Jay has also served Scouting as an Area President, Regional Executive Vice President, National Chair of the Jewish Committee on Scouting, and in various area, regional, and national committee roles.  While his son was a youth member, he served as a Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Scoutmaster.  Jay is an Eagle Scout and was selected as a Distinguished Eagle Scout (2008) as well as being awarded the Silver Beaver (2000) and Silver Antelope (2006).  Jay is also a Vigil Member of Nentico Lodge 12 of the Order of the Arrow (2017).  He is the son of a Life Scout and the father of an Eagle Scout. As a 15-year old in 1966, Jay served as a model for Norman Rockwell’s Scout painting “Beyond the Easel” which was the cover of the 1969 Boy Scout calendar.

John Merkin serves as a director for the Association.  John has spent over 30 years in the hospitality industry in executive positions for operations, development, brand management, franchise service and human resources.  He also consults on brand management, franchising, and operations for clients in growth, repositioning, or legal situations.  John has worked for franchisors and is currently a franchisee.  He also has worked with a number of franchisee associations.  John is an Eagle Scout and has served as a board member and executive committee member of the Atlanta and the San Gabriel Councils.  He has served on pack, troop, district, regional and Jamboree contingent committees.

Professional Advisors

Every volunteer organization benefits from partnering with professional advisors.  The Association is fortunate to have professionals who support the work of the Board of Directors.

John Andrews is the Scout Executive/CEO of the Northern Star Council.  He serves the Association of Scout Councils Board of Directors in an advisory role.  He has spent nearly 40 years as a professional Scouter working for five different Boy Scout Councils in the Midwest, including nearly 20 years as Scout Executive of a Class 100 council.  This has provided him many opportunities to work in concert with other large councils and the national staff on a variety of strategic projects and initiatives.  He has served on a variety of not-for-profit boards in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, as well as for national organizations, including service as board and foundation presidents.  He holds degrees in communication and business administration, and is a recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award for career and community contributions.
