Overview
The Association of Scout Councils grew out of the Local Council Working Group (LCWG) which was formed when the Ad Hoc Committee of Local Councils (Ad Hoc Committee) needed some financial and technical support for representing local councils in the Boy Scouts of America bankruptcy. Leading councils of the LCWG provided almost $1 million to the Ad Hoc Committee so it could engage experts to support the work of the Ad Hoc Committee. The LCWG also rallied local councils to commit to the proposed local council funding of the Victims Compensation Trust. LCWG councils provided extensive support to the Ad Hoc Committee regarding issues such as local council charter partner relationships. Out of that collaboration, councils shared ways they had addressed charter relationships in their councils, insurance issues, and other challenges. We determined that this type of collaboration was very beneficial and would be helpful even outside the bankruptcy context. For more about the history of the Association click here.
